Trek Itinerary
Day : 1
Manali to Khanjar (via Udaipur) | Trek to Doksa (10,700 ft)
Drive: 140 km / 5–6 hrs | Trek: 4 km / 1–2 hrs.
We begin our journey from Manali, crossing through the mighty Atal Tunnel into Lahaul. As the scenery shifts from green valleys to stark Himalayan rockscapes, we drive alongside the Chandra River to reach the historic town of Udaipur. From here, we turn into the narrow entrance of the Miyar Valley — a lesser-explored route blessed with barley fields, chortens, and grazing yaks. We reach Khanjar, the last village, and set off on a short acclimatization hike to Doksa. Expect vast meadows and a peaceful night under starlit skies.
Day : 1
Day : 2
Doksa to Yolling via Thanpattan (12,200 ft)
Trek: 12 km / 6–7 hrs.
The trail today winds through a paradise of pastures. You’ll walk along the Miyar Nala, past wildflowers and whispering brooks. Thanpattan greets us with green carpets stretching in every direction, and the silence here feels sacred. We cross Gompa Chorten, a symbolic structure, and navigate sections of rock and boulders before reaching Yolling — a peaceful campsite with mountain views that make every step worth it.
Day : 2
Day : 3
Yolling to Zardong (13,200 ft)
Trek: 10 km / 5–6 hrs.
We step deeper into the alpine zone today. After crossing fords and vast meadows dotted with summer blooms, we reach Gompa Nala. Here, the towering Tharang peaks stay in sight, standing tall like guardians of the valley. After a gradual ascent through high grasslands, we reach Zardong — a dreamlike campsite just before the glacier stream. We halt here to cross it safely in the morning.
Day : 3
Day : 4
Zardong to Palpu (13,000 ft)
Trek: 8 km / 4–5 hrs
The day starts with a gentle walk through the valley, followed by a descent to a wooden bridge. A steep climb leads to a shepherd’s home beside Gompa Nala. We then tackle a tough boulder section — the most technical part of the trek — but it rewards us with staggering views of the Tharang massif. Flowers bloom across the wide-open valley, and the sky feels closer at Palpu, our serene campsite for the night.
Day : 4
Day : 5
Palpu to Gompa via Miyar Glacier Snout (14,599 ft)
Trek: 14 km / 7–8 hrs.
This is the longest day of the trek, but also the most spectacular. We hike beside a calm river through Chhudong meadow — a highland plain glowing in golden light. The trail leads to a glacial moraine, rocky and moonlike, ending at the snout of the mighty Miyar Glacier. We set camp near the sacred white stupa, where the silence is only broken by the sound of the wind brushing past snow walls. The Taralasuma Pass trail begins nearby, tempting seasoned trekkers to explore further.
Day : 5
Day : 6
Gompa to Doksa (12,080 ft)
.
Trek: 11 km / 5 hrs.
We retrace our steps today, but everything looks new from the opposite angle. After a serene walk past the icy lakes of Kesar Yon Chu, we cross a couple of rivers and hike over scattered boulders. The descent is dotted with sudden ascents, keeping us on our toes until we return to the familiar pastures of Doksa. The memories of glacier views and alpine meadows linger long after we rest for the night.
Day : 6
Day : 7
Doksa to Khanjar | Drive Back to Manali
Trek: 4 km / 1 hr | Drive: 140 km / 5 hrs.
A short and gentle walk takes us back to Khanjar, where our vehicle awaits. As we drive out of the Miyar Valley, passing prayer flags and ancient stone homes, the journey feels like leaving a hidden world. We return to Manali by evening, tired but filled with stories that will last forever.
